Lesson 04 Β· From Idea to Campaign: Creating Ads on Ad Legends
Taught by Dave Metcalf Β· Executive Creative Director & Legendary Copywriter | Ad Legends Academy
Learn how to use the Brief Builder to turn your strategy into a polished creative brief β and how to edit, refine, and customize it before generating ideas.
A creative brief is the document that tells the creative team β or in this case, the AI β exactly what a campaign needs to achieve and how it should feel. On Ad Legends, the Brief Builder takes your strategy and turns it into a structured brief that guides the idea generation process.
In this lesson, we'll walk through how to generate your brief, what each section contains, and how to edit it to make sure it's exactly right.
Once you've reviewed and approved your strategy, generating a brief is a single click. The Brief Builder reads your strategy and populates each brief field automatically.
This gives you a complete first draft of your brief in seconds β ready for you to review and refine.
Here's what a typical brief includes:
A clear statement of the marketing problem you're trying to solve. What do you need people to think, feel, or do differently?
A more detailed description of your audience than what appeared in the strategy β including their mindset, motivations, and what matters to them.
The one key message your campaign must communicate. This is the heart of your brief β everything else supports it.
The secondary messages or proof points that back up your proposition.
How the campaign should feel. This guides the style and personality of every idea generated.
Anything that must appear in the campaign β brand elements, legal requirements, specific calls to action.
Review each field carefully. The AI does a strong job of populating the brief from your strategy, but you know your brand better than any algorithm.
Pay special attention to:
Editing is straightforward: click into any field and type your changes. The brief updates in real time.
The brief is the most direct input into your idea generation. The clearer and more specific it is, the more relevant and powerful your ideas will be. Spending an extra few minutes refining your brief is almost always worth it.
In the next lesson, we'll introduce you to Creative Legends β the AI personas that will be paired with your brief to generate ideas.
Yes. While generating from your strategy is the fastest route, you can also manually fill in brief fields if you prefer to start from scratch or have an existing brief you want to use.
The more specific your brief, the more targeted your ideas will be. Pay particular attention to the single-minded proposition and the tone β these two fields have the biggest influence on idea quality.
