Test Your Knowledge: The Susan Credle Creative Philosophy

You've traveled quite a journey through this masterclass — from a young girl staging neighborhood Cinderella productions in South Carolina, to the roving receptionist who turned BBDO into her personal university, to one of advertising's most influential creative leaders. Now it's time to find out how much of Susan's hard-won wisdom has truly landed.

But here's the real question: so what? Reading someone else's story is inspiring. What matters is what you do with it. This quiz is designed to make you stop and ask yourself — how does this implicate me? How do you take these lessons off the page and put them to work in your own creative life?

That's the point. Not just to recall Susan's philosophy, but to reflect on how it applies to you — especially right now, in an industry being upended by AI. When you have powerful tools that can generate copy, imagery, and concepts at scale, what makes you indispensable? Why does creative courage, cultural instinct, and the ability to push culture forward matter more than ever — not less? These are the questions worth sitting with.

---

Here's what you'll be tested on:

• Creativity as an economic multiplier — Susan's foundational belief that applying creativity to anything makes it matter more, and what that means for how you approach briefs
• The "not-an-ad" principle — Why the best advertising ideas feel like entertainment or cultural moments, and how to recognize the difference between work that interrupts and work that earns attention
• Diversity as a creative imperative — Susan's argument that homogeneous creative departments don't just fail morally — they fail creatively, and why that distinction matters
• Big ideas as platforms — How Susan built M&M's characters over two decades and Snickers into a cultural institution, and what separates a campaign from a platform
• Advertising that pushes culture forward — The difference between work that leans into existing stereotypes and work that moves the world somewhere it hasn't been yet

---

A quick reminder of Susan's core challenge to every creative: "I can push culture to a new place." She didn't say reflect it. She didn't say describe it. She said push it.

That's the standard she held herself to — and it's the standard that becomes your competitive edge in an AI-powered world. AI can execute. It can iterate. What it can't do is decide to push culture somewhere it hasn't been yet. That's still on you.

Some questions will ask you to recall key moments from Susan's story. Others will ask you to apply her thinking to hypothetical creative scenarios — the kind where there's no single right answer, but there's definitely a Susan Credle answer.

You've done the work. You've absorbed the lessons. Now ask yourself what you're going to do with them.

Go get it. Susan started as a receptionist and became a Global CCO. The least you can do is ace a quiz.
